Donovan signs off with mixed feelings

18 February
The old theory that you should never go back has not applied to Landon Donovan. For the second time in three seasons, the American has thrived on loan at Everton and the club have responded in kind, though saying farewell after Saturday's FA Cup tie with Blackpool is not without its benefits. "Of course I'll miss it. How would you not want to be part of this?" he says. "But I'd be lying if I said I wasn't excited about laying on a beach on Monday."

Blues blast beats Blackpool bravado

18 February
Everton won a place in Round 6 comfortably thanks to an electric start that had them 2-0 up inside seven minutes. Fellaini set up Drenthe for a lovely curled shot that had Goodison rocking in the sunshine after just 49 seconds, and Stracqualursi followed that up by poking home from close range off a great Drenthe corner. Defeat in the 2009 FA Cup final still eats away at the Everton captain, Phil Neville, and he is determined to put it right. Everton had more misery to dish out for a top-four side as they powered to a third successive home League win over Chelsea, underpinned by another determined, industrious performance. Pienaar marked his return to Goodison with a fine chest down and finish after just five minutes and a crunching second-half Neville tackle on Cole allowed Donovan to notch another assist, Stracqualursi burying the ball past Cech from the American's flick forward.

Everton vs Chelsea

Anichebe rescues sorry display

4 February
A dreadful game at the DW saw the old Everton re-emerge just days after the superb win over City, and that despite new faces Pienaar and Jelavic getting game time. The Blues conceded an awful goal when a spinning deflection off Neville hit a divot and made a total fool of Howard. It was down to late sub Victor Anichebe to rescue Everton from an ignominious defeat with a clinical header off Baines's cross. But little else to cheer as Everton sank to bottom-of-the-table Wigan's level of painfully poor Premier League football.

Does Phil Jagielka's poor form of late have anything to do with the fact that he is carrying a toe injury? It seems that's enough to rule him out of the England squad, yet David Moyes keeps picking him for every game despite the injury, and has him shot full of painkilling injections.
